Trezor Hardware Wallet

Are you judging the security of a hardware wallet on how long is has been functioning in the real world under real threats? Then Trezor should be your the number 1 device! They created the first hardware wallet ever, and it’s still an amazing device.

Not only the firmware have been improved and regularly updated over all these years, but they created better models too. If you get a Trezor device, you will get time tested and optimised open source software (?) combined with great up to date hardware.

At the moment the Trezor One, Trezor Safe 3 and Trezor Safe 5 are available. The Trezor One is a very cheap hardware device. It was the first hardware wallet ever and it’s still good, especially to use as a cheap and simple signer to add to your multisig quorum.

The other two devices are newer, they have a secure chip and interesting features like Shamir’s Secret Sharing (?). Do you want to secure your bitcoins in easy and secure cold storage (?)? Click the button below and get a Trezor straight from the factory!

Different Trezor Models

Trezor devices are around for more than 10 years. They have been improved regularly and managed to remain one of the better hardware wallets. The two biggest improvements are a secure chip and a touchscreen

The first protects the device against physical attacks and the latter makes the device more usable and makes recovery from a seed much more easy and secure. Obviously, the firmware has been updated regularly over those 10 years, which gives every Trezor model a robust fundament.

All models are open source, have a USB connection to the online machine and have a support for passphrases or ‘hidden wallets’, which is a very interesting feature that let you make wallets that are invisible if you open the Trezor. They will only become visible after you insert your secret passphrase. Other features differ per model as you will see below:

Trezor One

Trezor One is a very simple and cheap hardware wallet. It’s open source, it does everything it has to do, it’s very compatible with multisig wallets and other Bitcoin software, However, it doesn’t have any of the modern features that the newer hardware wallets have.

It’s one of the last hardware wallets with a general chip, so the seed could be extracted in case of a physical attack. This makes the Trezor one only a good device if you are sure you can physically protect it. If so, the low price and simplicity can make it a very attractive device.

The Trezor One is especially a good device to use in a multisig setup. It’s simple, cheap and compatible with almost all the multisig software. If you store the device together with the seed in a secure vault or another safe place: The general purpose chip isn’t a big deal, while the low price and simplicity is!

Trezor Model T

The Trezor Model T the second Trezor model. The device isn’t manufactured anymore, but for the foreseeable future the firmware will still be updated. If you still have a Model T it’s a good and very user friendly device. It can still be used for both multisig and singlesig.

The biggest improvements from the Trezor One to the Trezor Model T are the user friendly touch screen and Shamir’s Secret Sharing Scheme. However, this model doesn’t have a secure element. This is probably the reason why the production of the Trezor Model T is discontinued. The Trezor Safe 5 has the same features, and a secure chip.

Trezor Safe 3

The Trezor Safe 3 is the 3rd Trezor model. The hardware design looks like the Trezor One, it’s a simple device with a small screen and two buttons. A secure element makes that the Safe 3 protects much better against physical attacks than the first model.

The Safe 3 also added Shamir’s Secret Sharing, which enables you to create multiple backup seeds to eliminate the single point of failure of a single seed. You can make multiple backup seeds for the same wallet. You can set how many seeds there are and how many you need to recover your wallet.

If you distribute these seeds over different locations, your backup will be super sound! Want to secure your bitcoins with a Trezor Safe 3? Click the button below and get one directly from the manufacturer. If you don’t like shitcoins, be sure to get the Bitcoin-only version!

Trezor Safe 5

The Trezor safe 4 is the 4th Trezor model. The hardware is similar to the Model T, it’s bigger and has a very user friendly touch screen. However, the Safe 5 has a secure element, so it’s much better protected against physical attacks than the Model T.

Like the Model T and the Safe 3, the Safe 5 supports Shamir’s Secret Sharing, which enables you to eliminate the risk of a single backup seed. Do you want to get a Safe 5? Click the button below and order the device straight from the manufacturer. Don’t like shitcoins? Be sure to get the Bitcoin-only version!
